West Ashling

A two storey extension and extensive remodelling and renovations to a 19th century cottage in West Ashling. This cottage in the heart of the village began life as a 2 bedroomed flint and brick cottage under a slate roof. Later post war extensions to the rear were added with flat roofs and tile hanging (see photo, top left). The flat roofs and rear flat roof dormer were removed and a new first floor extension with slate roof added to harmonise with the original building. The layout of the plan included moving the cramped kitchen from the front of the house to a new position at the rear (in the former ground floor bedroom) opening onto a garden/dining area with folding doors to the garden. The four bedrooms and a bathroom are now all on the first floor. The existing house was rewired, replumbed and redecorated as part of the work.
